Welcome back! We will continue our POW. Starting from this semester, we will have a new set of rules. First of all, the problems will be posted on every Friday 3PM. (Note that we now have a tea time every day at 3PM.) The problem will be still posted on the blackboard in the room 1401, E6-1 bldg as well as on this website. 

We will also revise our way of selecting winners of the semester. At each week, students will earn points.

• +2 if the submitted solution seems reasonable. (meaning: good try, it may be correct but I don’t have enough time to check it carefully)
• +3 if the submitted solution is correct,
• +4 if it was selected as the best solution. (meaning: correct and well written)

At the end of each semester, we will select the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd students as we did in the previous semester.

Following a request from a student, we will announce the problem at 3:30pm instead of noon from this week.

몇몇 학생들의 요청에 따라, 이번 주부터는 문제를 정오가 아닌, 오후 3시 30분에 공개합니다.

2008년 9월부터 KAIST 수리과학과에서는 매주 수학문제풀기 대회를 열기로 하였습니다. 매주 제일 좋은 풀이를 제출한 학생의 답안을 온라인에 공개할 예정이고, 학기 별로 1위, 2위, 3위를 선정합니다.

문제는 매주 목요일에 이 웹페이지 https://mathsci.kaist.ac.kr/pow/에도 게시될 것이고, 자연과학동 E6건물 수리과학과 1층 common room 내의 칠판에도 공지할 예정입니다. 첫번째 문제는 2008년 9월 4일 정오에 공개되었습니다.

답안을 제출하려면 이름, 학번, 이메일 주소를 적어서, sangil at kaist.edu로 이메일로 보내거나, 수리과학과 과사무실에 가서 엄상일 교수의 메일함에 넣어주도록 부탁하면 됩니다. Rules 페이지를 참고하시기 바랍니다.

Starting in September of 2008, Dept. of Mathematical Sciences at KAIST will run weekly math problem challenges. All KAIST undergraduate students are encouraged to solve these problems and submit them. We will determine whose solution is the best each week, and will award the first, the second, and the third students each semester.

Problems will be regularly posted on Thursday at this website as well as on the blackboard in the common room of the E6 building. The first problem was posted on September 4, 2008, noon.

To submit your solution:

Please write (1) Your Name, (2) Your Student Id number (학번),  (3) Email address. If more than one student worked together for a problem, please write (1) (2) (3) for each student.

Email your solution to sangil at kaist.edu, or 
bring it to Dept. of Math. Sci. and ask to put it into the mailbox of Prof. Sang-il Oum.
