Professor Sijong Kwak and Professor JungHwan Park Receive Awards from the Korean Mathematical Society

Professor Sijong Kwak(above) and Professor JungHwan Park(below) are appointed to receive the Academic Achievement Award 2021 and the Sangsan Young Mathematician Award 2021 from the Korea Mathematical Society(KMS) respectively.

The KMS plans to hold its Fall Conference 2021 online on October 20-22, 2021 and it has announced the recipients of the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, ‘Academic Achievement Award’, ‘Best Paper Award’, ‘Sangsan Young Mathematician Award’, and ‘DI Mathematician Award’.

Professor Sijong Kwak has led his research group on algebraic and geometric structures of complex projective varieties on a worldwide level and contributed to solve the Castelnuovo-Mumford-Eisenbud-Goto regularity conjecture in dimension 3 and 4, regularity conjecture for the structure shaves. In addition, he also characterized varieties of minimal degree and del Pezzo varieties from the syzygetic viewpoints.

Professor JungHwan Park discovered new information about the structure of the knot concordance group and the homology cobordism group. More specifically, he showed that there are interesting relationships between the knot concordance group and the rational knot concordance group and between the homology cobordism group and the rational homology cobordism group.

The award ceremony will be livestreamed on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 4:20 p.m. and more detailed schedule can be found at http://www.kms.or.kr/meetings/fall2021/.
