학과문의사항
Hi KAIST
I would wish to undertake a grad study at a Master level in Mathematics. I currently hold a Bsc(Hons) mathematical sciences from Singapore and is also about to be confered a Master in Statistics from NUS.
May I know what are the difference between coursework and research Master Maths in KAIST and also how long is the duration for coursework and research master in Mathematical Sciences respectively?
Glad that anyone would assist.
Regards

Hi Mohaisen
Btw are you physically in Korea? Do you have any idea whether we can get scholarship for the full time program in Msc Mathematics coursework?
Btw I have been to KAIST before for summer program and it is really a nice place for study. -

I see.. thanks for your reply. So you are really in Daejeon?
Btw can you share what you work as in Daejeon and what are some of the work opportunities in Daejeon for a Msc Stats grad like me from Singapore?( I have only been in KAIST for 3 months so not really sure about the work environment in daejeon but plan to study in kaist maybe next year! ^_^)

The answer of your question is listed somewhere on this website (probably education corner). The difference between the course and research based masters degree is not in the duration but rather in the contents. The research-based masters degree has a research component (12 credits) and 24 credits equal to the sum of 8 courses totalling 36 credits. On the other hand, the coursework-based masters has no research component and therefore you need to do 12 courses totalling 36 credits. The maximum period of the masters is also listed on the website (I guess 5 years!) and the minimum is 2 years (not listed but you won't be able to finish the above load in less than that period. Cheers
