Professor Sanghoon Baek receives the Excellence Research Award from the Korean Mathematical Society

The Korean Mathematical Society (KMS) hosted its spring meeting 2020 via video conference on July 3, 2020.

At the conference, KMS presented the Excellence Research Award to Professor Sanghoon Baek for his paper entitled “Degree Three Invariants for Semisimple Groups of Types B, C, and D,” which was published online May 15, 2019 in Advances in Mathematics.

In his paper, Professor Baek determined the degree 3 reductive cohomological invariants of all semisimple groups G of types B, C, and D, which finishes the computation of the invariants for classical Dynkin types. He also gave a complete description of such cohomological invariants. As an application, he proved that the function field of the classifying space BG has no nontrivial unramified cohomology.
