Overview: Linear Algebra is widely used in computer science, engineering, chemistry, biology, economics, actuarial sciences and business. The fundamental question of this subject is how to solve various systems of linear equations. The primary aim of this course is to provide applications that are most likely to have practical values to the students rather than theoretical understanding. Among other things, we will cover three useful decomposition theorems of matrices from Chapter 2 through Chapter 8: LU-decomposition, QR-decomposition, and singular value decomposition.

Homework: The list of homework problems will be posted on the course homepage. You do not have to hand in your solution of these homework problems, but you need to know how to solve them by yourself.

Report: You have to turn in your reading assignment report every Monday and Wednesday and review report every Monday covering
the previous week In the beginning of the class.  ( A word document.) You also have to turn in the review report for the exam week
on the next Monday after the midterm exam but not after the final exam.

Discussion Section and Quizzes: There will be a two-hour exercise section in each week.
Quizzes will be given in the section to evaluate your understanding of the subject.
These quizzes will be from the previous week's homework sets.
